Onion rings recipe are delicious crispy rings served as a appetizer or side dish . This is very simple dish where onions are cut into a cross sectional ring , dipped in a batter , coated with bread crumbs and then deep fried.
Generally its dipped in egg white to get a beautiful golden color . But this is a vegan version of onion rings without egg or milk .

Onion rings are crispy delicious ,batter coated deep fried onion rings. It's a popular disg across the world and served mainly as a starter , appetizer , snack or a side dish.
To make a good crispy onion rings, firstly choose large onions and slice into about ¼" inch medium thick rings .
Crossectional onion rings should be cut to perfect thickness , neither thin nor thick .
My version of onion rings has no eggs , it;s vegan . Firstly , prepare a batter with corn flour , all purpose flour and spices to taste . Then coat in bread crumbs , again dip back in batter and dredge in bread crumbs again.
Deep fry these bread crumbs dredged onion rings on a medium heat till onion rings looks crispy and golden in color.

Tips to make crispy onion rings
To make a crispy onion rings , batter coated rings should be well coated with breadcrumbs and fry on medium heat till it turns golden in color.
To make a fail proof recipe , here I have double coated the onion rings with breadcrumbs . This is necessary step to ensure that rings are well coated and batter doesn't come off the onions while frying. So make sure to double coat the onions with breadcrumbs.
Variations to the recipe
- For Indian version of Onion Rings to pep up the flavors and add more zing , you can add ginger garlic paste with some red chili powder to the batter.
- As an alternative to bread crumbs you can use either crushed cornflakes or crushed rusk .
- For non vegan version , you can use egg white batter for dipping onion rings for second time.

Steps to make crispy onion rings
Take 2 large onions , trim edges ,remove skin and cut into ¼ inch thick slices.
Apply gentle pressure at the center of sliced onions and separate into rings.
In a bowl take all purpose flour , corn flour , chili powder , black pepper powder , mixed herbs , and salt.
Mix well.
Add about ¼ cup to ⅓ cup of water part by part ,
Whisk well
Make a smooth spoon dropping consistency batter.
Now take about ¾ - 1 cup of bread crumbs on a plate , add ¼ teaspoon of pepper powder ,mix well and set aside.
Now dip onion rings in batter .
With help of tongs or fork remove it from batter and roll on bread crumbs.
Again one more time dip the coated onion ring in batter
and coat with bread crumbs
Set aside on a plate.
Repeat the same procedure for all the onion rings.
Heat oil for frying.
Drop in coated onion rings in hot oil and fry on medium heat .
When it turns crisp and golden , drain excess oil , remove and place on a absorbent paper.
Without crowding the pan , likewise fry remaining onion rings in small batches.
Serve Onion rings as an appetizer / snack along with some tomato ketchup.

Ingredients
- 2 no's Onion , large
- ½ cup All purpose flour / Maida
- 2 tablespoon Cornflour
- ¼ -⅓ cup water or as required
- ⅛ teaspoon Baking Soda / Cooking Soda
- ½ teaspoon Red Chili powder
- ½ teaspoon Pepper powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt or as required
- ¾ teaspoon Mixed herbs
- 1 cup Bread crumbs
- ¼ teaspoon Black pepper powder
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions

Notes
- Be patient while dredging breadcrumbs for second time , as it may be bit clumsy
- Try using tongs , as it helps to double coat onion rings.
- If you don't need more crispier onion rings , single coat also works fine. But make sure to coat well , such that coated breadcrumbs doesn't open while frying in oil.
