Besan Bread Toast is a easy to make, delicious Toast that can be made for either morning or evening Tiffin . Bread slices are dipped in gram flour batter and cooked on tawa till crisp. Finely chopped onions, tomatoes , green chillies and herbs are only veggies , I add to make this toast. But other vegetables like capsicum , cabbage , carrot can also be added to the gram flour batter to make it more nutritious and tasty . Depending on your taste you can add or delete any veggies of your choice.
I like besan bread pakora with Green Chutney but as it drinks lots of oil , I don't make it or eat it . Its very rare , may be once in a year occasionally , I indulge with bread pakora. So my alternative for those deep fried bread pakora is this besan toast. Deliveries almost similar taste with less oil . Hence , I'm ok with it having for my evening snack or for my lazy mornings.

Besan Bread Toast | Besan Toast Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Besan / Gram Flour / Chickpea Flour
- 1 no Onion , medium size ,finely chopped
- 1 no Tomato , medium size , finely chopped
- 2 no Green Chillies, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon Coriander Leaves, chopped
- ¼ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- ½ teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
- ¼ teaspoon Ajwain /Carom Seeds
- 1 pinch Asafoetida
- ½-3/4 teaspoon Salt or as required
- ⅓-1/2 Cup Water , as required
- Oil for roasting , as required
Instructions
- In a wide bowl /small pan ,add 1 cup gram flour.
- To this add ½ teaspoon turmeric powder , chilli powder , carom seeds, salt and pinch of asafoetida .
- Add in chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, green chillies and coriander leaves.
- Add ⅓-1/2 cup of water ,part by part .
- Whisk well everything such that no lumps are formed.
- Adjust water if needed , the batter should be thick spoon dropping consistency but not free flowing.
- Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a tava/griddle /frying pan.
- Dip in the bread slice in a batter, with help of spoon place coat the batter evenly with the batter. Don't keep bread slice inside the batter for long as it may turn soggy.
- Place it on the hot tava , drizzle some oil on corners and top.
- When the base becomes firm , flip and cook on other side.
- Cook even on both sides till it looks golden brown, serve it along with coriander chutney and Tomato Ketchup.
Notes
- Adding Asafoetida and carom seeds/ajwain is recommended as it helps in digestion .
- Chickpeas releases phytic acid and few may feel gassy when used . To combat its effect , ajwain and asafoetida are used with Besan/ gram flour/Chickpea flour.
Step by Step directions for making Besan Bread Toast :
