Rose Syrup and instant gulkand is a simple and easy recipe that you can make at home.
This recipe gets ready under 30 minutes and has a great shelf life too. Both rose syrup and gulkand are extremely beneficial with lot of health benefits.

Homemade rose syrup is not only easy to make but it is very economical . It's lingering aroma is not only soothing but it has a refreshing flavour too.
In India , it is widely used during summer to beat the heat . Going Desi ( Indian ) , you can use this homemade flavourful rose syrup to make desserts, milkshakes , rose milk , falooda, rose lassi and drizzle over ice creams.
Also it is a great cordial to add into sparkling water , soda , cocktails and mocktails.
Roe syrup is mixed with milk to make rose syrup milk ; great way to uplift mood , combat mood swings , fight against acidity , heart burn and keeps the body cool. Where as Gulkand is great for reliving constipation and acidity.
Ingredients
To make this flavorful syrup , you only need 3 ingredients ! Rose petals , sugar and water .
Rose Petals - Source some organic dry rose petals . You can use either dry rose petal or fresh rose petals. If using fresh ones use 3 cups of fresh rose petals for every 1 cup of dry rose petals used. Choose rose petals that are free from pesticides and diseases. You can pick
Sugar - is the sweetener , I have used in this syrup. Other sweeteners like agave , monk fruit or maple syrup can be used. But jaggery doesn't tastes great in this syrup. Sugar to dry peatls ratio is 1:1 .
Water used to make rose syrup is twice the amount of sugar in the recipe.

How to make Rose Syrup
In a sauce pan add rose petals , sugar and water.
Keep on low heat and stir well to dissolve sugar completely.
Cover sauce pan with a lid and keep on simmer for 25 -30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, open lid , stir and continue to cook uncovered until it reaches the slightly thick , syrup consistency.
Turn off heat , place saucepan on kitchen counter top and wait for the syrup to turn lukewarm.
Strain the liquid from the petals and collect in a glass bottle , this liquid is Rose syrup .
And collected rose petals in strainer are used to make gulkand .
To make Gulkand
Add collected rose petals back into the same sauce pan . To this add ½ cup of rose syrup.
Mix well everything and cook on a medium heat .
Continue to cook until rose petals absorbs all the sugar syrup
At this point , colour changes to deep reddish brown.
Turn off the stove and keep it aside on counter top until it cools down.
Store in a clean airtight jar and use it as required.

What is the shelf life of Rose Syrup?
In refrigerator, this rose syrup stays good upto 4 months and Gulkand stays good for 2 months.
How to use Gulkand to get relief from constipation ?
Mix ½ tablespoon of Glukand with 1 teaspoon of butter and eat everyday morning on empty stomach. Or Mix 1 tablespoon of gulkand in 1 glass of milk , and drink at bedtime everyday . These 2 are known home remedies to relive constipation and also piles when practiced regularly.
